European Championships – Glasgow 2018

Where possible, you should book an alternate day. Please call the practice if you wish to rearrange your appointment.

For further information about the event please visit the Glasgow City Council web site for more information :

Merger Update

Important Notice regarding the merger of Park Surgery and York Place

Park Surgery and York Place will merge on 1 st of May and become Woodhead Medical Practice.

There will be some disruption to service over this time as our computer systems are combined and updated. We are working hard with the Health Boards to reduce the impact this has as much as possible. Please see the time line below which outlines the changes which will happen to support the merger and the impact this will have upon the service we provide.

Friday 27th April 2018.

Our computer systems will not be available over this time to allow data to be transferred onto the new server. This means that the doctor will not have access to your health record and will not be able to see what medicines you are taking or check your blood results. Repeat and one-off prescriptions will not be available at this time. There will be no pre-bookable appointments with doctors or nurses (including bloods) on this day. For emergency appointments please contact your current practice (i.e. York Place or Park Surgery). Drs Davda and McGroarty and staff will move from York Place to the new Woodhead Medical Practice at Saramago Street at close of business.

Monday 30th April

Computer systems will continue to be unavailable and doctors will not have access to your medical records and will be unable to issue repeat or one-off prescriptions. All patients previously registered with York Place and Park Surgery will now be seen at Woodhead Medical Practice located at Saramago Street (current Park Surgery address). Emergency appointments will be available over this time.

Tuesday 1st May

Computer systems will likely be unavailable and doctors may not have access to your medical records and may be unable to issue repeat or one-off prescriptions.

All patients will now be seen at Woodhead Medical Practice.

Wednesday 2nd of May

All computer services should be available, and while we expect to be able to start providing prescriptions, there will likely be a backlog and one-off prescriptions may take longer than the usual 48 hours to issue. We will update notice both in the practice and our website www.woodheadmedicalpractice.co.uk to keep you informed of events.

Woodhead Medical Practice telephone lines will be closed for routine enquiries between 1pm and 2pm every day to allow time for staff training and service development. You can still phone the surgery during that time for an emergency.

Notice of Merger

We are pleased to inform our patients that Park Surgery and York Place will be merging on the 1st of May 2018. We have been carefully considering the feasibility of a merger for some time and have the approval of the HSCP and Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.

The new surgery will be called Woodhead Medical Practice.

We hope you will find the following information helpful in answering some questions you may have.

Why are you merging practices?

As we are sure you are aware, over the past few years, there has been increased pressure placed upon General Practice. The increasing elderly population, the growth in long term conditions and the need to move more work from secondary care into the community means that General Practice needs to expand and innovate to absorb this increased workload. Whilst both practices are performing very well they are under strain. We believe that the best way to continue to offer our patients an innovative, sustainable, quality service into the future is to merge our practices

What does the merger mean for patients?

  • Improvements to the overall range and quality of services to patients.
  • Improved access to services, with longer opening hours to meet the needs of patients.
  • Improved access to more clinical staff for patients.
  • Improved patient choice and increased GP and nurse availability.

How will this merger affect my care?

  • There will be no detrimental effect to the care that you receive.
  • You can continue to see the same doctor that you see at the moment.
  • You will have a wider choice of which doctor to see.
  • There will be no reduction in services and the Twechar Surgery will continue.

Can I still see my usual GP or Nurse?

Yes, you can still see your usual GP or Nurse.

How will you provide enough appointments?

The practice team will regularly review the number of appointments available: GP and nurse appointments will not be reduced. The merger will result in a greater appointment availability for patients overall.

Are there plans to close either of the sites?

Yes, York Place Surgery will close on Friday 27th April at 6pm and relocate to Park Surgery premises at the KHCC 10 Saramago Street, Kirkintilloch G66 3BF from Monday 30th April 2018.

Do I need to re-register with my GP?

You will not need to do anything; the merger has no effect on your registration and your entitlement to NHS care.

Would I have to stay with the merged practice?

No, if you do not wish to remain with the merged practice you are free at any time to register with another GP practice, provided you live within their practice catchment area.

How are you planning to keep patients informed of the progress of the merger?

Updates will be available in the form of postings on the websites, posters in the waiting room, text alerts, and on the right- hand side of prescriptions.  Please provide us with an up to date mobile number to ensure you receive important text alerts.
