Note : All Twechar appointments are booked through the Woodhead Medical Practice.
Booking an Appointment
Due to the Pandemic, all requests to see a GP are initially assessed by telephone as per current Scottish Government Guidance.
Patients who have already registered with the practice can make an appointment at Woodhead Medical Practice or at the Twechar Healthy Living Centre by calling our reception. Please note that the Twechar surgery has been suspended during the Pandemic.
On-line booking of appointments has been suspended during the Pandemic.
It is now also possible to book routine appointments online. To use this service you will first need to register to access our online services. Please come to the surgery at your convenience to collect a Patient Access Registration Form which will allow you to sign up for this system. If you have already completed and returned a form please visit our Online Services page to book an appointment.
Arriving at your Appointment
Limited parking is available at the surgery and you should plan to arrive in good time to allow for the possibility of having to park off site. Additional parking can be found at the nearby Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre.
We have dedicated parking bays for our disabled patients at the front of the surgery. We politely ask that this is not used by able bodied patients as a dropping off point.
Self check in is not currently in use due to the Pandemic.
We have a Self Check-in facility at Woodhead Medical Practice. This allows you to register your arrival for your appointment without having to waiting at reception to be checked in by staff.
When arriving at the practice you will see the Self Check-In screen at reception. Simply enter your date of birth and confirm your appointment type on the screen. Please note if you are any more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you will need to report to reception. If you are attending for an “urgent” appointment you will also need to report to reception.
Regrettably, if you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, we may have to ask you to re-book.
Extended Opening Hours
These appointments are intended for patients who work and find it difficult to attend during the day due to their work commitments.
Doctors : once every week on alternate Monday and Thursday evenings, excluding Public holidays.
Nurses : every Monday and Thursday evening, excluding Public holidays.
Appointments are available with Doctors and Nurses from 5.30pm to 6.30pm
You can also request a telephone consultation, whereby the Doctor will call you at a given time to discuss your medical problem via the telephone if this is more suitable.
Open Access Clinic
We have an Open Access Clinic on Wednesday mornings from 09:00am. Please phone on the day and a receptionist will advise you what time your telephone appointment has been booked for that morning. Due to the nature of the clinic we cannot guarantee that you will speak to the doctor of your choice.
Out of Hours
If you become unwell after 6pm, or at weekends or bank holidays please call NHS 24 free on 111
If an emergency appointment is requested, it is important to keep to this appointment.
If you feel within a short period that you no longer require medical treatment, you should cancel your appointment so that it can be offered to another patient in need of emergency treatment.
Emergency appointments are given to patients who medically need to be seen that day.
Please try to request visits before 10.00 a.m. If possible please come to the surgery. We can see more patients with better facilities at the surgery. Children with simple infections or rashes can be seen at the surgery.
Cancelling an Appointment
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list.
You can also use our online services to cancel an appointment, but you can only do this 24 hours in advance of your appointment (excluding weekends and public holidays).
Twechar Healthy Living Centre
Currently unavailable due to Pandemic.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and she will arrange this for you.
Private Medical Examinations
Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc, will require longer than a routine appointment.
These examinations do not form part of NHS Services, you will be charged for any such examination. Please check the fee chargeable when you require to arrange any such examination.
Request for GP Letters/Completion of Forms
If your Doctor has agreed to write a letter for you in connection with your employment, acting as a referee, or for some other specific area, you may be charged for this letter. If you wish your Doctor to complete a form/report for you, there will also be a charge for this, please allow 48 hours before uplifting your form.
The reception staff will advise you of any applicable charges.
